Two local health professionals have officially launched a new program aimed at granting last dying wishes.
The Living Wish Foundation was co-founded by Dr. Alyssa Boyd and RN Lisa Wright and was officially launched Thursday evening in Collingwood.
This non-profit organization provides medically supervised end of life wishes.
In one case, a man was granted his wish of tasting rum raisin ice cream one last time.
Other wishes that could be granted include taking a patient from hospice to their home to see their garden blooming in the Spring or a last trip for a patient to their cottage.
This is the first of its kind organization in Canada.
The goal of the organization is to provide 12 wishes in 12 months during this first year of operation.
Details of specific wishes in the works can't be disclosed to protect the privacy of the patient, but all donations go to fulfilling these last requests.
There are also a number of volunteer positions available.
