Gateway Casinos expects to start building the new Wasaga Beach casino this Spring.
The company says it will build a facility with a mix of amenities including slots and table games pending government approvals and completion of the land transaction.
Gateway announced today (Thursday) that it has chosen the 7.5 acre piece of land adjacent to the Mosley Street roundabout at Lyons Court and Beachwood Road.
The company says that in the next few weeks it will announce more details about the size of the casino, the type of food and beverage offerings, employment opportunities and investment in the local economy.
Wasaga Beach Mayor Nina Bifolchi says the casino represents the dawn of a new period of economic development in the community, an era that will pay dividends for years to come.
She says it's anticipated 150 new jobs will be generated when the casino opens its doors in the summer of 2020.
For the town, there will be a revenue stream from the casino of anywhere from $1.5 to $2 million annually.
Bifolchi says she believes the casino will serve as a drawing card, bringing thousands of people to Wasaga Beach every year.
