UGDSB Considers IB Program Expansion in Dufferin

Dufferin/Wellington | by Jill Young

The board only offers the International Baccalaureate Program at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute right now.

The Upper Grand District School Board is looking for input on whether or not a special program should be offered for students.

Right now, Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute is the only school that offers the International Baccalaureate program in the UGDSB.

The IB Diploma program, which is two years in Grade 11 and 12, is respected by leading universities around the world, and teaches students to think critically and independently.

Students need to be self motivated and disciplined, organized with good time management skills, with a high academic standing.

The board is looking to confirm if there is interest in establishing the program in Dufferin County, or in other parts of Wellington.

An online survey is available until April 12th, with the information provided to trustees in June.

If approved, the earliest the Grade 9 IB prep program would start is the 2022-2023 school year.
