Come September, high schools in Saugeen Shores and Kincardine will have new names as Grades 7 and 8 students join the population.
The Bluewater District School Board Committee of the Whole has given its blessing to Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) and Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS).
All that's left is final formal approval from the board of trustees, who happen to make up the Committee of the Whole.
Saugeen Shores trustee Katie Lutz says she's happy the initials of the school will be kept "so that the branding of the school could remain the same while encompassing the changing dynamic of the school."
65% of voters in Saugeen Shores picked the new name over "Saugeen District School" and "Port Elgin Senior Elementary and Saugeen District Secondary School."
Lutz believes pretty well everyone is pleased with the new name despite only a two-thirds positive vote on the new name.
Same holds true in Kincardine where Jan Johnstone is the trustee.
There 85% of voters chose Kincardine District Senior School over "Kincardine District School" and "Kincardine Shores Senior School."
The formal vote on the name changes will come at the regular Board of Education meeting on April 16th.
