HPCDSB Says Students Need Note To Take Part In Thursday Walk-Out

Huron-Perth | by Fadi Didi

Director of Education says students without note from parent/guardian will be marked absent.

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board is advising parents to speak with children, ahead of a province-wide walkout.

The group "Studentssayno" is calling for a walk-out by all Ontario students Thursday at 1:15 p.m., to protest cuts in education by the province.

Among the changes being protested are increased class sizes, mandatory e-learning, and the cutting of grants to low-income families pursuing post-secondary education.

HPCDSB Director of Education Vince MacDonald is warning, any students taking part in the demonstration without a note from a parent or guardian will be marked absent.

The school board notes staff will not be supervising students who take part in the protest "since our educators and leaders will be fulfilling their duties as per the regular school day."
