It was just like Christmas for Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) at the monthly board meeting of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
In total, over $579,000 was handed over from various fundraising campaigns and investments, by SMHF.
The money is going to several areas, including the MRI campaign ($141,012); finishing off the 2018 capital request list ($152,352) and a $286,000 instalment towards the hospital campaign.
Vice President of Patient Care quality & Chief Nursing Executive Judy Shearer says all the money will go to ensure that patients get safe, high quality care at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
Shearer says every year, the needs of all the hospitals continue to grow and there's never enough money to cover all the expenses.
She says Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in Southampton is a vital cog in the continuing support for health care in the entire region.
Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray agrees and is quick to point out, none of this happens without the continuing support of the residents of Saugeen Shores and area.
Murray says through programs like Light the Way, the Gran Fondo Lake Huron and other fundraising efforts, the community is there to answer the call.
