Students at a Shelburne school are learning about how they differ from other Canadian children through a special project.
The students at Centennial Hylands Elementary School are participating in the Northern Birthday Box Project.
Sponsors receive information about a child in a Northern community where costs are very high, and the volunteer groups put together boxes filled with items to make the child’s birthday a little bit more special.
The project is an eye-opener for the students, who get a first hand look at what the cost of typical birthday supplies would be in Northern Canada.
Through the project, they're learning about empathy, and about how different things are, in other areas of the country.
