Hospitals in Huntsville and Bracebridge are the first in Simcoe-Muskoka to dispense naloxone kits in the emergency department to patients with an opioid crisis.

The distribution program provides take-home kits for patients who are at significant risk of overdose or suffer from high-risk opioid dependencies.

When a kit is given out by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare staff,  they also demonstrate how to administer the drug safely, and educate patients and family in identifying the signs and symptoms of overdose.

In the first six weeks of the program,  MAHC dispensed a handful of kits from each site.
