The Sykes Street Bridge is in for a makeover.
Meaford Council gave the go ahead at its meeting Monday night.
The final hurtle was to approve awarding a tender to National Structures 2011 Inc. on the project.
The bridge was expected to come in around $1.5 million. However, according to Darcy Chapman the Director of Financial Services and Infrastructure Management, it will be lower than anticipated at $1.2 million.
The remaining money will be transferred into the Bridge Reserve Fund or used to maintain surrounding roads that may see a substantial increase in traffic once construction begins.
"If a road that sees 500 vehicles a day now gets 2,000 because of construction, well it's going to need some repairs," Chapman says.
Currently, work on the bridge is set to begin in early May and be completed by the end of September.
