A Record Run for Bruce Power

Tiverton | by Bayshore News Staff

The nuclear giant produced clean electricity for 193 consecutive days.

Bruce Power's Unit 1 set a post-refurbishment record run on Feb. 24, generating low-cost, clean electricity for 193 consecutive days.

Unit 1's run of uninterrupted production is the longest since it was returned to service in 2012.

Bruce Power's Executive Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Len Clewett says with strong planning and execution of future maintenance programs, they have no doubt Unit 1 - and the other refurbished units - "will continue to be a good investment for Bruce Power while benefitting the families and businesses of Ontario for decades."

Currently, Units 3 and 4 are part of Bruce Power's Life-Extension Program and will undergo their own Major Component Replacement Projects from 2023-28, adding about 30 years of life to the reactors
