Clock Ticking For Vendors Of Goderich Flea Market

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Vendors will need to find new location, after Goderich BIA says it will no longer manage Sunday summer flea market.

The clock is ticking for vendors, who don't know if the summer Sunday flea market on Courthouse Square in Goderich is going ahead this year or not.

One of those vendors is Terry Saxby, who has taken space at the flea market for many years and recently presented a petition to Goderich Council, in the hope of saving the attraction.

The petition contained 432 signatures.

Saxby says last year was a bit slower, but the weekly attraction still made money.

The Downtown BIA says escalating costs including liability insurance, have caused them to stop running the flea market.

Saxby doubts another entity will pick up responsibility for it quickly, and vendors likely will have to find sale spaces in other communities.

The Town has already said it won't be responsible for the attraction.

Deputy Mayor Myles Murdock hopes the BIA might revisit its decision and if not, that local service clubs may step in to save the attraction with proceeds going to charity.
