Saugeen Shores residents won't have to travel far to get their Baconator fix, because Wendy's Restaurant will be coming to Port Elgin.
The formal planning process has begun, says Town of Saugeen Shores Supervisor of Development Services, Jay Pausner.
"They've submitted their site plan, we're reviewing that now and it will eventually go to council," he says.
The developers will bring their plans to the March 18, Committee of Adjustment Meeting, where two public variances will need to be approved.
The Wendy's location was previously known for a proposed A & W Restaurant (south of Circle K) and would see some changes to the land that was originally approved for the other fast food chain.
Pausner says variances include a front yard setback bylaw change to 6.2 metres, the current requirement is a 10 metre set back and a reduction of landscape by 5 percent.
"If they approve it, the intention would be to take a site plan to council."
If plans are approved the restaurant will be 2,500 sq ft and feature a drive-thru and 40 seats.
The property is owned by JRAD Investments.
