The City of Owen Sound is receiving a grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
$117,636 comes from FCM's Climate Change Staff Grants Initiative to address staffing gaps and increase capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Owen Sound is one of 59 communities across Canada to receive this funding.
They along with the Grey Sauble Conservation authority will use the funding to dedicate staff to activities related to addressing climate change.
Mayor Ian Boddy says it is wonderful for the city to get this grant.
He says this will allow us to look into climate change and how we can reduce our carbon footprint.
Boddy says Owen Sound is surrounded by natural environment and the Niagara escarpment.
He says when you look at those things, it is an important part of our region to protect.
