The outdoor sports complex in Saugeen Shores at the Lamont Pit, will be sporting a new name.
Director of Community Services, Jayne Jagelewski says the former Lamont Pit at 300 Concession 6, in south Port Elgin, will officially be known as The Lamont Sports Park.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says council is more than happy to recognize the Lamont family.
Charbonneau says it's great to see a new name for the facility and have the project move forward.
He says the move does not eliminate opportunities for naming rights of some of the features within the park.
He says the next phase is to seek out community partners to help develop the facility.
The 160 acres of land was purchased by council for a-million-and-a-half-dollars in 2018.
It's expected to cost an estimated 1.65 million to construct the complex with money being raised through fundraising and debt financing.
The Lamont Sports Park would have up to 8 baseball diamonds, along with soccer pitches, hiking areas and parkland, when completed.
