Goderich BIA To Stop Managing Flea Market

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Business Improvement Area calls on other groups to manage the town's Sunday flea market.

A Goderich Councillor and the Downtown BIA are getting the word out through social media, on what's happening with the Sunday Flea Market in Courthouse Square.

The BIA recently posted on Facebook that it was a difficult decision to stop managing the flea market after 10 years of involvement.

The organization says it can no longer afford to run the event every summer Sunday, and encourages other organizations to step in.

The BIA post came one day after Councillor Trevor Bazinet commented on Facebook that the decision was made by the BIA and not Town Council, which has never administered the event.

Bazinet cautions that running the flea market involves the purchase of liability insurance, and other expenses.

An online petition is calling for the flea market to stay -- and supporters are looking to have their say at the March 4th town council meeting.
