Awards Night At The Movies at Galaxy Cinemas Owen Sound supports the United Way.

Sunday night is Oscar Night and Owen Sound has the only official Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved live Oscar event in Canada.

The 10th annual Awards Night At The Movies is set to go at Galaxy Cinemas Owen Sound in support of the United Way of Bruce Grey's Backpack Program.

Galaxy Owen Sound General Manager John Mulder says the evening is the biggest annual fundraiser for the United Way program that supplies low-income students with backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of the school year.

The Oscars will be live-screened in the theatre, but before guests make it to their seats, there is a red carpet to walk and interviews with those on the red carpet will be screened in the theatre.

"There's something to be said for sitting with 100 people and having the same emotional journey, so you're laughing together and clapping together and tearing up together."

Mulder says movie trivia will be shown during commercial breaks, and each person can enter their Oscar winner picks for a chance to win a prize.

There is also a 50/50 draw.

Some of the first guests will receive Academy approved swag and prizes.

Tickets are $25 with proceeds going to the Backpack Program.

The red carpet opens at 7:30 Sunday night. (Feb 24th)
