A casino IS coming to Wasaga Beach despite some rumours.
Director of Communications and Public Affairs with Gateway Casinos, Rob Mitchell, made a presentation to Committee of the Whole and a packed gallery in council chambers on Thursday afternoon.
In his opening statement, Mitchell said despite some rumblings around the community, Gateway has no plans to change its mind and leave. He adds that Gateway is committed to building a casino in Wasaga Beach.
He says that he has been getting lots of support from people in town.
Mitchell told councillors he can't yet announce the model and kinds of amenities for the casino or the location yet.
The five sites the town of Wasaga Beach has identified for a casino are Beachwood Road at Fairgrounds Road, Highway 26 near Wilson's Corners, River Road West near the former Waterworld Site, on the Waterworld property itself and Beach Area 1 and 2.
Before today's meeting, there was a small protest outside town hall. Some of the demonstrators held signs that said "Business Lives Matter 2" and "Say No To 26".
