Family Day Police Pursuit In West Grey

West Grey | by Matt Hermiz

When police pulled up beside a stopped truck in Ayton, they say the driver took off, ran a stop sign & drifted into oncoming traffic.

A police pursuit in West Grey on Family Day resulted in charges against a 32-year-old man.

West Grey Police say at about 12:30 p.m. yesterday officers were on general patrol in Ayton, when they observed a black Ford F150 parked on Louisa Street.

Police say when the officer pulled up beside the vehicle, the driver immediately accelerated and headed south bound.

The motorist was recognized by police to be a 32-year-old West Grey man known to be a disqualified driver.

Police activated emergency lights and attempted to intercept the vehicle, which proceeded onto Mary Street without stopping at a stop sign and then began to drift into oncoming traffic while going up the hill.

West Grey Police say officers abandoned the chase due to safety reasons given the heavy public traffic conditions as Family Day Festivities were underway.

Police contacted individuals known to the suspect male; they were able to convince the 32-year-old man to turn himself in without incident.

The man arrived at the West Grey Police Durham detachment around 4 p.m. yesterday and was arrested on numerous charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and fail to stop for police.
