Thieves Steal Fuel Near Exeter, Grand Bend

South Huron | by Peter Jackson

OPP recommend farmers lock up, turn off fuel pumps to avoid theft.

Another reminder from police to rural property owners about fuel security, as Huron OPP investigate fuel thefts in the Exeter and Grand Bend areas.

Police say earlier this month, 170 litres of fuel was stolen from a tank at the Exeter Cemetery on Thames Road, and thieves stole around 50 litres of fuel from a farm pump on B Line.

A second theft attempt at the B Line property was foiled, when the pump was shut off.

OPP again caution farmers and rural property owners to make sure their fuel pumps are shut off after hours, and to secure any fuel access point with a heavy duty lock.

They add that in isolated areas, lights and security cameras would be a good addition for unsupervised locations.
