Little Scores in OT

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

The Winterhawks take a 2-0 series lead on 81's; Ripley advances while Clinton & Durham both up 3-0.

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks have taken a 2-0 lead in their best of 7 WOAA Sr Hockey quarterfinal series with the Mapleton Minto 81's.

Thirty three seconds into the first overtime period, Adam Little snapped home a power play goal to win the game, 3-2.

Hawks coach Matt Turcotte says they didn't use Little on the power play until that moment and it was golden.

The two teams were deadlocked at 2 since the 16-minute mark of the second period before the overtime marker.

Laughlin Elder and Trent Hawke were the other scorers for the Hawks.

The game started late because the 81's had difficulty getting to the Plex, due to the winter weather however, Turcotte points out both teams played a good game despite the delay.

The third game in the series goes Sunday afternoon, February 17th, at 2pm in Palmerston.

The fourth game is back at the Plex this coming Tuesday, February 19th, at the usual start time of 8:30pm.

Elsewhere in the "AA" quarterfinals:

Ripley defeated Huron East, 6-2 to sweep their series in four straight.

Durham edged Petrolia, 7-6 and have a 3-0 lead in their series.

Clinton beat Tavistock, 7-4 and have a 3-0 lead in their series as well.
