Plenty To Do In Grey Bruce On Family Day

Communities throughout Grey Bruce are embracing the Health Unit's "Day Of Play."

Communities throughout Grey Bruce are putting on all kinds of activities for Family Day.

Public Heath promoter Jason Weppler says Monday is also the Health Unit's annual Day Of Play to promote active lifestyles.

Weppler says they're asking people to take the time to do physical activity like skiing, snowshoeing, skating, sledding, yoga or simply take the dog for a walk.

Weppler says, "Being family day, it's a perfect day to be out and about with your family."

In Brockton there are skating events, plenty to do at the community centre and outdoors including a family breakfast, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, outdoor games and a campfire followed by the grand reopening of the Power Workers Union Centre.

The Chesley Community Centre will have registration for some activities and also a life-sized Hungry Hippos game.

In Hanover there will be wagon rides, campfires, music, skating, carpet bowling and plenty more at the P & H Centre.

Huron-Kinloss is holding a Winter Carnival, hockey games and a hockey skills competition as well as sleigh rides.

At the Davidson Centre in Kincardine there are family workouts scheduled a public swim and skate.

Markdale is having a snowman competition, Crokinole tournament,  pancake breakfast, chainsaw carving, skating, Jenga and winter outdoor games at the Markdale Complex.

Saugeen Shores is holding some sponsored skates and swims at the Plex, the Coliseum and Centennial Pool.

South Bruce Peninsula will have activities in Wiarton including a hatchery tour and archery display at the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen's Club. At the Propeller Club there will be a spaghetti dinner and karaoke.

The Sauble Cross Country Ski Club will have hot dogs and apple cider to go with free Cross Country skiing and snowshoeing. Sun trail outfitters will have free equipment to try.
 
In West Grey there will be rollerskating and crafts at the Neustadt Arena, public skating and crafts at the Normanby Arena and skating and activities at the Durham Arena

This region-wide event is organized by the PLAY in Bruce Grey physical activity collaborative, a partnership of the 17 municipalities, Saugeen First Nation and the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
