Opening Of Goderich's Bannister Park Delayed

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Officials say town's new recreation park will open Canada Day.

Progress on Goderich's new recreation park complex -- now known as Bannister Park -- is close to being on schedule, but not without a few minor delays.

Chair of the Goderich Rec Park Revitalization Committee, Leah Noel tells us that they are slightly behind schedule, and that the official opening has had to be pushed back.

She mentions weather-related delays in 2018 are largely to blame for the delay.

Noel says the work is around 93 per-cent complete, and that the opening ceremony will be held on July 1st.

The opening had originally been slated for April, but Noel notes that they want to give the grass a chance to take hold properly before it's used for recreation.

Country 104.9 News asked Noel if Memorial Arena eventually might be incorporated into the Bannister Park complex.

She points out that any such discussion would have to be undertaken by town Council, and that the committee is tasked only with developing the neighbouring recreation space.
