Rags To Riches

Collingwood | by Catherine Thompson

A former homeless youth from Simcoe County will share his story about getting off the streets.

A native of this area is coming home to tell his rags to riches story.

The so-called Skid Row CEO, Joe Roberts, who grew up in Midland, will be speaking at Collingwood Collegiate Institute on Tuesday, February 19 from 4 to 6 P.M.

The free talk is aimed at adults who support those with addiction and mental health needs, but Roberts says everyone can benefit from hearing about how he changed his life for the better.

He tells the story of how he was a teen drug addict and lived on the streets, but with help from his mom and an OPP officer, he changed his path and became a successful CEO of a media development company in less than 12 years.

In 2016-17,  Roberts pushed a shopping cart across Canada to raise funds and awareness about youth experiencing homelessness, a campaign dubbed 'Push for Change.'
