The Port Elgin Rotary Club has stepped up to help out the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation and the regional MRI fundraising campaign.
Port Elgin Rotary Club President Dan Murawsky says his group has decided to donate $30,000--$10,000 a year for the next 3 years--to the MRI campaign for the Owen Souhnd Regional Hospital.
In addition Murawsky says Port Elgin Rotarians have committed the proceeds of their annual Home Show raffle for the next 3 years to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation for use specifically at the Southampton site.
Past raffles have raised around $5,000 a year.
The Rotary Home and Recreation Show is set for April 13th and 14th this year.
Murawsky says the decision to donate was an easy one since the health care of the community depends on a functioning Southampton Hospital, enhanced by the regional hospital in Owen Sound.
Hospital Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray says five regional foundations, including Saugeen Memorial, are looking to raise 4.7-million-dollars towards the purchase of a new state-of-the-art MRI, to replace the one being used now, considered one of the oldest in the province, if not Canada.
The Port Elgin Rotary Club announcement was made at the Queen's Hotel in Port Elgin on February 5th, during the club's monthly Rotary After Hours event.
