Goderich's new recreation park is now known officially as Bannister Park.
Council Monday voted to adopt the new name, after the community was invited to submit ideas.
Recreation Park Revitalization Committee member Peter Shepherd says the park is named after the late Carl and Marilyn Bannister, who bequeathed their entire estate to the town.
Shepherd says local service clubs supported the sports park with their share of the Bannister estate.
Committee Chair Leah Noel tells Country 104.9 News that July 1st is set as the opening date for Bannister Park.
She says there were a few weather-related construction setbacks last year, which pushed back the opening from this spring.
Noel adds that contractors are waiting to return to the site, to address a few issues that became apparent in late 2018.
Revitalization of Bannister Park is a $3.2 million project, helped by the $250 thousand first prize in the nationwide Kraft-Heinz Project Play contest won by Goderich in 2017.
