Former West Grey councillor Carol Lawrence passed away this week.
The Municipality of West Grey lowered its flags to half-mast to honour her.
Lawrence spent 42 years in the public service.
According to West Grey Mayor Christine Robinson, that was more than half of Lawrence's lifetime, "The longevity of Carol's public career speaks to her importance to this community," says Robinson.
Robinson adds "Her accomplishments that have shaped West Grey and her devotion to public service will forever be her legacy. On behalf of council and staff, we send our heartfelt condolences to her family."
Lawrence started her career in local politics when she was elected to council in the former Town of Durham in 1976. She served as Reeve and Deputy Mayor in Durham, then later as councillor in the amalgamated Municipality of West Grey. Lawrence was also a school board trustee in Grey County and sat on the board of governors for Georgian College.
A funeral service celebrating Lawrence's life was held Monday (Jan 28th) at the Durham Community Centre.
