It was a milestone game for the Owen Sound Attack but it turned out to be a memorable one for the Guelph Storm.
The Storm hammered the Attack by a score of 6-1 Friday nigjt in Guelph.
The game was the 2,000th played in the 30-year history of the Platers/Attack franchise.
Guelph went up 2-0 in the first period on goals by Liam Hawel (1 goal, 1 assist) and former Attacker Sean Durzi less than 3 minutes into the game.
That chased Owen Sound goaltender Andrew MacLean (13 saves) from the game after facing just 4 shots and was replaced by Mack Guzda (15 saves) but MacLean returned in net for the start of the third period.
The Storm (25-13-4-4)continued their onslaught with 4 goals in the second period for a 6-0 lead.
The Attack (22-20-2-2) answered in the third period on a goal by Andrew Perrott.
Hawel, Dmitri Samorukov (1 goal, 1 assist) and Nate Schnarr (2 assists) all finished with 2 points each while Anthony Popovich made 29 saves in the win.
The Attack return home to face the Flint Firebirds Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Game time is 7:30 PM.
