The emergency departments at hospitals in Bracebridge and Huntsville are being renovated to create two purpose-built secure rooms that protect patients at high risk of violence and/or harm to themselves or others.
Construction of the secure rooms should be completed by May.
Dr. John Simpson, Emergency Medical Director, says the most acutely ill people come to the Emergency Department but these departments also tend to be chaotic by nature.
He says it's important we have spaces that meet our patients' different needs.
During the renovation work both emergency departments will be more congested with reduced capacity, causing wait times to be potentially longer.
