After last week’s fire, the heat and hydro are back on and Golden Tiger the martial arts school in downtown Hanover is open and operating again.
Golden Tiger will be better than ever, that from the martial arts school owner and instructor Terry Sulkye.
As the martial arts studio undergoes construction as a result of the fire, Golden Tiger is taking this opportunity to upgrade and renovate the martial arts studio.
This will include a new layout, a larger equipment room and all new training equipment.
The new equipment is necessary as smoke damage resulted in the loss of almost all of Golden Tiger’s training equipment such as pads, gloves , focus mats, kick shields, heavy bags, dummies, uppercut stations and even the boxing ring itself.
The challenge right now is space, as the floor space has been reduced due to the rennovation work, a challenge that Sulkye says will be temporary.
On January 15th, a fire occurred in the attic of a one of the apartments above the martial arts school.
Firefighters did a great job knocking the blaze down before it could spread, however water and smoke damage did leave its mark.
Sulkye and his wife Deanna are overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the outpouring of community support that has come forth.
Volunteers have pledged to help out with the work ahead.
Sulkye is not at all surprised, saying Golden Tiger is a family, a family that sticks together especially when times get tough.
So while there will be some growing pains as construction and renovation work continues, Sulkye says they will do their best to continue with programming as usual.
Adult classes started up earlier this week, the kids programming will resume as of this Thursday.
Golden Tiger offers boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, submission wrestling, boot camps, ab and cardio classes and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
