Regional | by Jill Young

This week, until January 27th, is Snowmobile Safety Week, OPP say unsafe ice the main culprit in three deaths this season.

Some grim statistics when it comes to snowmobiling in Ontario.

This week, until January 27th, is Snowmobile Safety Week.

Three out of six deaths related to snowmobiling this season were due to them travelling on unsafe ice.

Speed, driving too fast for the conditions, and alcohol/drugs were factors in the other three fatal incidents.
In an effort to enhance snowmobile safety, the OPP is now engaging its aviation and Unmanned Aerial Systems.

Police say it's an effective tool in a number of situations such as watching for speeding, search and rescue, and detecting dangerous snowmobile activity.
