Business at Wiarton Keppel Airport Doing Well

Georgian Bluffs | by Ken Hashizume

The Township is reporting increased usage and fuel sales, talks underway to bring passenger service to/from Toronto.

Things are looking up at the Wiarton Keppel International Airport.

A report was delivered at Wednesday night's Georgian Bluffs Committee of the Whole meeting.

The report shows there were 4,388 aircraft movements at the airport and there was an increase in jet fuel sales in 2018 compared to 2017.

Mayor Dwight Burley says much of the work was done during the previous term of Council.

He says all the space at the airport has been rented out and it is doing what they had hoped it would do.

Burley says they are in talks with a charter carrier that would see passenger service between the airport and the Billy Bishop International Airport in Toronto.

He says they are working on finalizing the deal and hopes to announce it soon.

Burley says they haven't experienced any additional burden since South Bruce Peninsula sold their stake of the airport to the Township.

He says they only have to deal with one tax base and it becomes easier to make decisions.
