The town of Collingwood is opting in to host retail cannabis stores.
On Monday evening, council voted unanimously in favour of letting the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario know of this decision.
Mayor Brian Saunderson says this is the right decision and he is glad council took its time getting here.
Council also voted unanimously to approve a policy statement.
The statement says the town would like a 200 metre buffer around schools and parks which is about a block from any potential retail pot shops.
The province has stated buffers should be 150 metres.
And the AGCO does have final say on buffer distances and is only taking comments from municipalities into consideration.
