Clearview Township Takes A Pass On Pot Shops

Clearview Township | by Catherine Thompson

Clearview to take a wait and see approach as to how cannabis retail stores play out.

Another local community has said no to hosting retail cannabis stores for now.

On Monday evening, Clearview Township council voted 8 to 1 to notify the Alcohol And Gaming Commission of Ontario that it opts out of having these stores.

Clearview joins Wasaga Beach and Tay Township in opting out.

Municipalities can opt in whenever they like.

But if they say yes then they can't later change their minds to opt out.

Clearview Township council made its decision following a public consultation session in which those who spoke all suggested opting out until the township can see how it has worked or not in other communities.

Earlier on Monday evening, a Collingwood council committee held a similar public consultation process.

Seven members of the public spoke and all but one supports opting in to allow retail pot shops.

Council will make its decision at next Monday's meeting.
