Huron-Bruce Liberal Candidate Says Positive Approach Needed In Politics

Huron-Bruce | by Fadi Didi

Allan Thompson says residents are tired of "politics by tweet."

The federal Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce wants a more positive approach to politics, heading into the next election cycle.

Allan Thompson says Canadians are tired of "politics by tweet," and attacks by politicians against the media.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has referred to the press as the "opposition party," while U-S President Donald Trump refers to unfavourable outlets as "fake news."

Thompson attributes attacks on the media as a tool adopted by conservative candidates to garner votes.

The 55 year old Thompson will be formally acclaimed as Huron-Bruce's Liberal candidate January 12th.

He ran as the Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce in 2015, falling to incumbent Conservative Ben Lobb by roughly five points.

The next federal election is expected to run October 21st, 2019.
