Boston Pizza in Owen Sound is throwing its support behind a local group working to help those who are struggling with addiction.
On Wednesday, December 12th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., 10 per cent of money spent on dinner at the Owen Sound restaurant will go to The Addict's Attic.
Founded by Owen Sound resident Matt McCoy, The Addict's Attic is a non-profit organization that aims to connect people trying to fight addiction with the community resources they need to be successful.
McCoy says the event is for anyone who wants to help, whether that's by simply making a donation though buying a meal at Boston Pizza tonight, or by coming out to learn more about community organizations and resources.
McCoy says it's not just about substance abuse, and he is not a stranger to addiction himself, "Long before I became an addict, I was depressed and before I was depressed I was abused, but before I was abused, I was just a kid."
McCoy says, "The only requirement for anyone to get our services is that at one point in time, they were just a kid. So whether it's alcohol addiction, drug addiction, gambling addiction or whether it's depression, eating disorders, we cover it all."
McCoy says his organization is growing each day and has recently partnered with the United Way.
Money will go to the basic operation of the Addict's Attic, which works on a volunteer basis and McCoy says clients are not charged for anything.
He says that means paying for transportation, training, meals are all by donation or out of pocket.
He's also trying to put money away in order to one day have a physical location for his organization.
McCoy suggests calling Boston Pizza to set up a reservation in order to ensure yourself a table at (519) 370-2003.
There will also be a raffle for some packages and a silent auction for a custom fit entry door donated by Jim MacArthur Windows and Doors out of Hanover.
