SIU Clears Officer of Assault

An investgation concluded that man received injuries from punching an officer in the head.

No charges are being laid to an OPP officer in Ripley.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit were investigating a case where a 24-year-old man had an altercation with police in December of 2017.

They have concluded that the injuries that the man sustained during the arrest occurred when he attempted to punch an officer in the head.

South Bruce OPP were called to a home in Ripley (Township of Huron-Kinloss) on December 13, 2017 about someone going through a mental health crisis.

The SIU says the man hid in a wooded area to avoid capture and then return home where he was confronted by an awaiting officer.

They say the man then proceeded to attack the officer by throwing several punches to the head.

The man was arrested at the scene and later taken to hospital where it was reveal he had a fracture in the knuckle of his right hand more commonly known as a boxer's fracture.
