Goderich Mayor Lays Out Priorities For New Council

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Economic Development, environment, youth retention to be priorities at first town council meeting

Goderich Council will plot its course for the new four-year term Monday, a week after members were officially sworn in.

Mayor John Grace was elected on a platform of economic and business development as Council's first priority.

Grace says among the things he wants to see are the return of an environmental committee, and a committee dedicated to growing the town's economy.

He says reviving the environmental committee makes sense, especially since young people are showing awareness and commitment to our natural surroundings.

Grace pledges to develop the local economy, based partly on encouraging youth to stay in Goderich and finding ways of attracting young former residents to return.

He promotes Goderich's downtown as one of the most unique in Ontario, and says Council must support the core area's economy.

Grace says the Square is Goderich's most marketable aspect, and the town needs to foster business and tourism downtown.

Goderich Council meets this afternoon at 4:30pm.
