Turns out the driver who ditched a pickup off Highway 11's southbound lanes Wednesday stole a canoe to flee the scene.
That from police today, who say he then paddled into Bracebridge where he was taken into custody.
Yesterday morning, Bracebridge OPP were called to the scene on Highway 11 south of Cedar Lane, shortly after 8:00 a.m., where the pickup, which they told Country 102 on the scene, was towing stolen snowmobiles, crashed into the ditch.
The OPP canine unit was called in shortly after the driver initially fled on foot.
Charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Breach of Probation and Theft and Break and Enter is 52 yr old James Rye of Huntsville.
He was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge today.
