A family with ties to Port Elgin are facing tragedy in what should be the happiest time of their lives.

Andrea Cardin gave birth to her 2nd child, James on November 21st but only a week earlier, she was diagnosed with pre-leukemia, which has progressed quickly to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

She has a challenging road ahead, staying in hospital for chemotherapy treatments and potentially a stem cell transplant.

Her partner Chris and her oldest son Charlie are very worried about her.

Andrea is a freelance sports photographer, so she’ll be off work for many months as she fights this illness.

GoFundMe page has been set up by Andrea's cousin Jennie Stacey of Port Elgin to assist with the family's needs as they get through these difficult times.

The page has raised $12,514 in just two days.
