There is an information session that aims to clear the air about legal cannabis use in the workplace.
It will take place this Wednesday at the Stone Tree Golf and Country Club from 8:30 AM to 12 Noon.
The session hosted by the Community of Drug and Alcohol Strategy and the Grey Bruce chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association will feature two lawyers with a background in labour and employment law.
They will cover the details behind the legislation surrounding legal cannabis use and how businesses can develop policies.
Coordinator for Community Drug and Alcohol Strategy Alison Govier says this session is to make sure that workplace policies regarding cannabis use are laid out.
She says it will also show employers how to communicate and enforce these policies.
Govier says what she has been hearing a lot lately is what is the difference between medical marijuana use and recreational marijuana use.
She says this session will show employers what the differences are and how to deal with these issues in the workplace.
Govier says this session will address the complexities of drug addition, disorders, and mental health.
She says, for example, a worker does have rights if he or she discloses their mental health issues with their employer.
Govier says this session is for anyone from small business owners and franchisees, to large corporations and government offices.
