The 2018 Light the Way fundraising campaign is officially underway.
Things kicked off with a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton Monday afternoon celebrating the theme this year where you can "Shine Your Light" on health care.
The kickoff featured about 35 people who showed up at the hospital to help kick off the campaign and enjoy some baked goodies.
All were armed with flashlights so they could Shine the Light, along with the Christmas tree lighting.
The goal of the campaign is $150,000 for upgrades to equipment for patient records and diagnostic imaging.
An additional $100,000 is being raised for a new MRI at the Owen Sound facility.
Light the Way will assist both campaigns.
This year's Honourary Chair, Southampton lawyer Judy Rich, who has worked on past campaigns, says she's excited to get the fundraiser underway and looks forward to this year's Light the Way Day on Thursday, December 13th, when 98 the Beach will host a 12-hour Radiothon.
December 13th is being delcared Light the Way Day by the town of Saugeen Shores.
Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says it's essential that people contribute to the cause in order to maintain the already great hospital we have as we are constantly updating equipment and services.
Mayor Mike Smith agrees and has confidence in the community stepping up to the plate on December 13th.
The new Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, Tracy Murray, says she's brand new to the job but is already blown away by the support the community has shown for the hospital and the fundraising efforts.
Murray says she's already receiving calls from people that want to donate to Light the Way.
Next up is the Shine the Light/Light the Way float that will be featured in Santa Claus parades in Port Elgin on November 24th and Southampton on November 30th.
The 98 the Beach Radiothon takes place on Thursday, December 13th, from 6am to 6pm, when people are invited to call in or visit the station with their hospital donations.
In addition to the Radiothon, letters are going out to virtually every household in Saugeen Shores and the catchment area explaining what the Light the Way fundraising campaign is all about and the various ways you can donate.
