Goderich To Update Nuisance By-Law

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Update follows harassment by two London men of women, children in Goderich.

The Town of Goderich is moving to deal with incidents where passers-by and visitors are verbally harassed by individuals.

Municipal staff are working to update the so-called Nuisance By-Law, that was last amended in 1996.

Councillor Matt Hoy is leading the drive to have the measure changed after two men from London came to Goderich this past summer, and verbally confronted a number of women and children downtown.

The pair were essentially banished from London earlier, after a similar by-law was invoked to make them stop.

Hoy says Goderich has to live up to its tourism marketing slogan, and start acting like Canada's Prettiest Town.

He says an amendment to the local Nuisance By-Law can resemble what's in effect in London, but tailored in a way to reflect life in Goderich.

Hoy points out that the by-law amendment must be enforced strongly.
