Huron "Out Of The Cold" To Return December 1st

Huron County | by Fadi Didi

Winter homeless shelter to be run from Goderich's Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel.

A winter shelter will be returning to Huron County for a third year.

Rather than being run from Goderich's Lakeshore United Church, the 2018-19 edition of the Out of the Cold program will house homeless residents at the town's Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel.

Salvation Army Captain Laura Hickman says Out of the Cold will open December 1st, and operate until March 31st, 2019.

Overnight accommodations will open at 9:00 p.m., but guests waiting for the shelter to open can visit the Sally Ann's Family Services office next door, beginning at 7:00 p.m..

Although the shelter operates in Goderich, homeless from across Huron County are provided transportation to Canada's Prettiest Town to utilize the winter shelter.

Hickman says volunteers are needed to help run Out of the Cold.

Anyone interested in helping can contact shelter officials at 226-222-2105.

Last winter's program housed 28 individuals, including men, women, and children.

Out of the Cold is funded by the County of Huron.
