Town officials are encouraged by a newly-released study on the economic importance the Port of Goderich, and what it could mean for the facility's future.
The study was drawn up by Pennsylvania-based consultants, and examines the economic impact of 21 Canadian and 19 American ports along the St. Lawrence Seaway.
It says the Port of Goderich generated nearly 2,800 direct and spin-off jobs in 2017, while supporting almost $400 million in economic activity throughout our area.
Chief Administrative Officer Larry McCabe says the results will help the town approach the provincial and federal governments for funding the $40 million needed for port expansion.
The Goderich Port Management Corporation is currently completing a $16 million, four-acre ship unloading facility.
