1/ Are you in favour of bricks-and-mortar cannabis stores in your municipality? Why or why not?
At this point not enough information has been forthcoming from both levels of upper tier government to decide the viability of a bricks and mortar cannabis store. We need information concerning regulation, policing responsibilities and municipal costs.
2/ What are your plans for future economic development strategies? With the Bruce Power extending its operating life for decades, an influx of new residents are expected in the region. How will we accommodate them?
An influx of new residents will indeed be a challenge for many communities. South Bruce has some residential land that is ready for use. We also have land zoned future development. Our schools will be able to accommodate expanded enrollment. We have recreational facilities that are yet to be at capacity. We have also enjoyed industrial expansion during this past year.
3/ With prosperity, comes hardship. Many local businesses are concerned that they do not have enough employees to sustain their businesses because of the many high paying jobs that exist in the region combined with the low unemployment rate. How do we make local businesses sustainable, in your opinion?
Lack of employment is indeed a problem. However I think this is a problem not to be solved at the Municipal level but must be addressed by all levels of government. I would welcome the opportunity to be part of the solution and look forward to dialogue from a diverse cross section of opinions including government, business and community members.
