Mike Schierz

Hanover | by Robyn Garvey

Hanover Council Candidate

1) Hanover is bursting at the seams and in need of more land for development.  How would you address this challenge?

Once the election is over, Hanover should send a delegation to West Grey and ask if there is anyway we can work out some kind of arrangement for Hanover's infrastructure to move East.  Try to find a way that is in both communities interest, if that does not work then we have got to go to the County and or the Province. Hanover has tried working with West Grey over the past few Council terms but nothing has came out of it. Give it one more shot then move on to the next level.

2) Many residents are expressing safety concerns regarding Hanover’s Trail System.  Much of this concern stems from ‘Tent City’, (individuals living in tents in the forested area near the trails.)  How should the Town address these safety concerns?

There is always those in any community that live on the margins, we have social services available for those who need help.  We can talk more affordable housing (affordable to the clients and the taxpayers). Basically this has more to due with substance abuse and mental health. We have a number of agencies and support to help folks, if they want it. Safety is the responsibility of our police force and they will come up with a plan to remove the structures.
3) Would you support allowing a cannabis retail operation to set up shop in Hanover?

I am in favor of anyone being able to sell something that is legal.
