Bill Roberts

Hanover | by Robyn Garvey

Hanover Deputy Mayor Candidate

1) Hanover is bursting at the seams and in need of more land for development.  How would you address this challenge?

I would get both Councils of Hanover and West Grey to sit down after the election to see if there was any agreement possible on moving ahead in adding land to the Town of Hanover. Hopefully those discussions would work. If they didn’t, the Town should look at other alternatives available to moving ahead to allow for growth.

2) Many residents are expressing safety concerns regarding Hanover’s Trail System.  Much of this concern stems from ‘Tent City’, (individuals living in tents in the forested area near the trails.)  How should the Town address these safety concerns?

I would like to see the police refer the individuals living in the tents to CMHA to see if they would like any addiction or mental health counselling. I would also suggest they look at contacting the YMCA for housing support.

3) Would you support allowing a cannabis retail operation to set up shop in Hanover?

In the Towns industrial park, there is a plant to manufacture and grow cannabis. Hopefully it will open in the near future. Since we have a plant here, I would support a cannabis retail shop to open in Hanover, subject to the conditions imposed by the Province and any conditions that the Town and Police might want.
