Chatsworth Candidates Q & A Municipal Election 2018

1/ Do you support Bricks-and-mortar marijuana stores in your municipality? Why? Why not?

The Federal government has not extended much information to date regarding the implementation of recreational marijuana.  The Ontario government has indicated they will develop a private retail system for the sale of recreational cannabis, through consultation with the stakeholders, with the model to be ready by April 1st, 2019.  Online sales will be handled by the Ontario government, scheduled to start on October 17th, 2018.  I will be attending a course during the first part of November to educate myself on the options available to our municipality, to make an informed decision.   Currently each municipality has until January 22, 2019 to decide if they will be opting-out of hosting private retail cannabis stores.

2/ What would be your main priority if elected to council?

We are a small municipality with a large number of roads and bridges.  To maintain our infrastructure we require a detailed plan into the future as to how our limited dollars will be allocated.  Our council has reviewed the municipal road structure and is working on a 5 and 10 year plan to maintain our roads and bridges.  With 52 bridges and 482 km of roads within the Township of Chatsworth, Council needs to priorities roads and bridge projects to be prepared for provincial and federal grants as well as providing good fiscal management.

Over the last year, I have been a member of the Recreation Task Force Committee which consist of 12 to 15 member of the community appointed by Council to provide recommendations for a recreation plan for the Township.  This ongoing project is a priority for me.

3/ What are your views on the current long term care situation in the County?

Both Rockwood Terrance and Grey Gable are a stable in our community and I believe we need to maintain both facilities.  Our families have worked hard in our communities and I would like them to be able to stay in their community of choice.  We require more retirement beds not less.
