Traffic Charges Up from Last Year

Police say there was an increase to traffic related charges over the Labour Day long weekend.

Distracted driving might have been the focus but it wasn't the most ticketed offence over the Labour Day long weekend.

Caledon OPP laid a total of 435 charges including 72 charges for distracted driving.

Speeding was the big offender with 203 charges laid and 14 stunt driving charges handed out.

Police also laid 33 charges for seatbelt violations.

Officials say 1 person was charged with impaired driving.

They say there was a 28 per cent increase in total traffic related charges over the long weekend compared to 2017.
