Both Grey and Bruce Counties are holding household hazardous waste days today.
Grey County residents can attend the drop-off in Owne Sound at the Public Works Facility at 1900 20th Street East from 9 AM to 2 PM.
The program is open to residents from the following municipalities:
. City of Owen Sound
. Township of Chatsworth
. Township of Georgian Bluffs
. Municipality of Grey Highlands
. Municipality of Meaford
. Municipality of West Grey
Meanwhile, Bruce County residents are welcome to drop off their household hazardous waste at the Southampton Works Yard from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
You can get rid of materials such as old paint, oil batteries, oven cleaners, pesticides and propane tanks as well as fluorescent tubes and lamps.
Hazardous materials can be spotted by their labels. They will say either corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable.
Improper disposal into drains, sewers, backyards or landfills endangers public health and contaminates water supplies and other natural resources.
Hazardous waste cannot be accepted from commercial, industrial or farm operations.
For a complete list of what is accepted, and to download a copy of the Hazardous Waste Report form (that can be completed before arrival), residents are asked to visit the City website at: www.owensound.ca/hazardous-waste.
In Bruce County, more details are available at brucecounty.on.ca/living/hazardous-waste-collection-calendar.
